Week 3 2018 Results and Standings

Week 3 Results and Standings are posted.

Just a couple notes before the summary of Week 3:
o  Please note that the maximum score on a hole is 5 over par or 8 on a par 3 and 9 on a par 4.

o  We had a case in week three where neither golfer in a match showed up.  In this case, no match points were awarded (after checking with a past commissioner).

o  We also had a case in week three where the opponent was a no show.  The rules stated that “The unopposed golfer wins the match by two strokes plus the number of strokes by which he beats his own handicap.”  This doesn’t work if the golfer scores over his handicap.  I therefore reverted to the 2015 rules which stated that “The unopposed golfer wins the match by the higher of (a) 2 strokes or (b) the number of strokes by which he beats his own handicap.”

These three changes are now reflected in the 2018 Rules posted on the web site.  Please let me know if you have any comments or concerns about these changes to the rules.

Summary of Week 3
Tuesday, May 22 was again a beautiful evening. Unfortunately the golf did not match the beautiful weather, as the average score increased from 48 in week 2 to 50 in week 3.  11 of 25 golfers shot 50 or over, and only Andy LeBeau broke 40 with a 39. Andy had the low net score and the low gross score with a 27.  Andy also had two of the three birdies, with birdies on #6 and #9. Congratulations Andy. Michael Brania had the other birdie on hole #7.

The rest of us were obviously building our handicaps for a late season surge.  After two weeks of match play, Team Molter has a four point lead, with the remaining teams closely bunched together.

On the challenges, a new golfer, Tom Stafford won closest to the pin on the first shot on hole #2.  Chris Pozza won longest drive on hole #4.  Mike Brania won closest chip from off the green on hole #7.  Stephen McDonnell won longest drive on some other hole.  None of the sheets for the challenge had the hole listed and the commissioner couldn’t remember that one.  Please make sure to mark the holes next round.
