Week 4 Results Posted

Use the links to the right for Tuesday's results and the new standings. This was the first week this year the average score went up. It was pretty windy (and it seemed to me like the greens were much faster than usual) - I'll chalk it up to that.

Week 1: 48.2
Week 2: 46.7
Week 3: 45.6
Week 4: 46.5

How Are Pairings Set?

Some of you have been asking me how pairings are set up, since you seem to golf with the same teammate each week. I will try to explain the formula that is used, but would welcome any comments or suggestions for improvement. (See my previous post for instructions on Leaving a Comment on the blog.)

1st Half
For the first round, the pairings are meant to pit each team’s #1's against each other, and the same goes for the teams’ numbers 2, 3, and 4. So, a particular match-up and grouping would look like this.

Group 1

  • TeamA’s #1 vs TeamB’s #1
  • TeamA’s #4 vs TeamB’s #4

Group 2

  • TeamA’s #2 vs TeamB’s #2
  • TeamA’s #3 vs TeamB’s #3

(Sometimes I switch it up so the 2/3 pairings go in Group 1 and the 1/4 pairings in Group 2.)

Anyway, because of this formula, if there’s little movement of handicaps on your team, your 1 and 4 may play together week after week, and your 2 and 3 will likewise be grouped together.

2nd Half
In the second round, golfers are paired and grouped so the foursome is "fresh." By the end of the season each golfer should have been in a foursome with every other golfer in the league.

Exceptions can be made to this formula when golfers ask to change groupings in order to share a cart.

As I said, please leave comments or suggestions if you’ve got them.

- Dave

How to Leave a Comment on the Blog

I welcome your comments on the blog posts. Leaving a comment is pretty easy. Here are the simple instructions.

  1. Click the link at the lower-right corner of this post that says “0 comments” (or however many comments there are).
  2. Type your comments in the box that says “Leave your comment.”
  3. Word Verification: You will likely be asked to type in some letters it shows you in a box – that’s just to verify you’re a human and not another computer trying to pull some shenanigans.
  4. Below that Word Verification, you will be asked to choose an identity. You can leave comments anonymously if you want, or leave your name by selecting Name/URL and typing in your name.

Week 2 Results and Notes

Week 2 Standings and Results are now posted in the Links list on the right-hand side of this page.

Some notes . . .
  • Intense negotiations are underway to bring in a 10th team. It may happen soon.
  • There were still four no-shows this week (aside from the expected missing team). Please contact teammates who have not shown up to find out whether they plan to golf this year and, if not, try to replace them on their team.
  • I have golf balls to hand out to several of you. I should be there early next Tuesday, and done when most of you leave the course. I'll try to award you at that time.
  • I've gotten league fees ($20) from over half of you. Hopefully I can get the rest of you this week or next.
  • It's a long, rocky (not to mention sandy, woodsy, and sometimes cart-pathsy) fall from League Champions to 9th Place.
  • Next week's match-ups should be up by Monday morning.
See you Tuesday.
