Week 7 (June 18, 2019) Results an Standings

Once again the rain held off and we had another wonderful day of golf at Glenway - even the mosquitos haven't been too bad so far.  

For week 7, the average scores rose a little bit to 47.  We had a number of subs Tuesday, and Glenway definitely takes some getting used to for golfers new to the course.  We had two golfers break 40, Jimmy Yednock and Mark Woodruff, who both shot 37.  Brent Hemstead and Scott Larson were next - each shooting 40.  Pat McEvilly was on fire with a net 24, while Mike Kraus and Brent Hemstead shot net 28.  Someone forgot to tell Mike that you aren't allowed to shoot so well when you play the commissioner - I'm sure that is in the rule book somewhere.

With one week to go in the first half, there are three teams still in contention for the first half title - Team Dvorak, Team McEvilly, and Team Downing.  Team Dvorak is in first with 25.5 points.  Team McEvilly is in second with 23.5 points.  They play each other in this final week of the first half.  Team Downing is in third with 23.0 points, but has a bye this week.  So if everyone shows up for Team Downing, Team Dvorak needs 4.0 points, while Team McEvilly need a sweep of all 6.0 points.  The rest of us battle for pride and improving our golf game.

Week 6 (June 11, 2019) Results and Standings

I first wanted to let everyone know that City of Madison Golf is offering free golf instruction on a number of Saturdays throughout the summer.  I went to a session on Saturday, June 1 and it was excellent and free!  Here is the schedule (all sessions are 12:00-1:00):

Also, we learned that we can have scores under 40 published in the Wisconsin State Journal.  Scott Larson shot a 36 this week and Jake Heller shot 39, and both were in the paper Wednesday morning.

With rain earlier in the day, everyone was thrilled with the beautiful weather we had for golf this Tuesday.  The weather was warm and there was very little wind.  With the warm weather, the scores were much improved, with three members of Team Kraus blowing up with net scores of 22, 23, and 25.  Congratulations to Tom Stafford, Mike Kraus, and Eric Durkee.  Jake Heller also shot a 25 net.

For week 6, the average scores improved to 45 - the best of the year so far.  We had two golfers break 40 as I noted earlier, led by Scott Larson with a 36, and Jake Heller with a 39.  I don't know what Team Kraus had for a pre-game meal, but it sure worked.  Tom Stafford had a net 22, Mike Kraus had a net 23, and Eric Durkee had a net 25, while Jake Heller also shot a net 25.

After the fifth week of the first half (Week 6 overall), the standings are even tighter.  Team Dvorak is still in first place with 20.5 points, but five other teams are within 4.5 points of first.  Team Raymer is in second place with 20 points and Team McEvilly is in third place with 17.5 points.
