Thanks to Dave Rieves, who dug through his extensive collection of league items, we have prize flags (or challenge hole markers, or whatever you want to call them) that are easier to carry than the ones that belong to the city.
Beginning this week, these prize flags and the yellow sheets to fit in them will be stored in a container behind the counter at The Glen. Our procedures should be the same as always, with the first foursome responsible for setting out the prize flags and the last foursome responsible for bringing them in.
However, since the new prize flags are much smaller than what we're used to, a couple of tips: If you hit the longest drive, please put the flag in the middle of the fairway where it will be seen most readily. And if you hit one of the other prize shots close to the hole, please put the flag at the appropriate distance on the green but always on the far side of the hole, to reduce the chance that it will interfere with a later approach shot.
Finally, please tell me if you would like for there to be FIVE challenge holes each week. Since we have five of the new flags, it might be nice to have one more challenge and more chance to reward someone with a shout-out and an entry in the drawing for cash prizes at the end of the season.
See you tomorrow!
