Week 4 (May 28, 2019) Results and Standings

The weather at Glenway was again cool, but with all the rain, the course is in pretty good shape, although the roughs could use a bit of trimming.  For those golfers who have been with the league for a while, the trees are certainly cut back.  The first hole especially is less challenging if you go slightly right.

For week 4, the average scores were again 48. Only one golfer broke 40, and it is again Mark Woodruff with a 39.   Jimmy Yednock (once again also) and Jeff Dvorak had the next best score, with a 41.  Mike Sanders had the lowest net score with a 27, while Ambuj Shatdal had a 28.

After the second week of the first half, the standings have Team Dvorak still in first place with 15.5 points.  Team McEvilly remains  in second place with 11.5 points, and Teams Rieves and Raymer are in third with 11.0 points.

We had a first in a while for the Challenge Winners - no one was able to get on the green in one on Hole #2, so we didn't have a winner.

Challenge Winners were as follows:
  • No one - Closest to Pin First Shot on Hole #2
  • Mark Woodruff - Longest Drive on Hole #5
  • Mike Sanders - Longest Drive on Hole #9
  • Zach Katona - Longest Putt on Hole #9

Only one golfer had a birdie this week:
  • Ambuj Shatdal on Hole #9

Week 2 (May 14, 2019) Results and Standings

Week 2 Results and Standings are posted.

First, a welcome back to Team Dvorak, comprised of Jeff Dvorak, Chad Scholtz, Aaron Kroth, and Jake Heller, after taking last year off from our league.  We also have a number of "new" members who were subs in the past.  Welcome to Tom Mack and Jimmy Yednock on Team McEvilly, and Mark Woodruff to Team Downing.

Also a reminder, especially for new members, everyone golfs every week.  If you have a bye, each golfer needs to show up to get points and your score counts toward the handicap.

It was another decent May night for golf at Glenway weather-wise, but the course was in pretty rough shape.  However, I didn't hear anyone blaming the course for their scores.  It was just beginning of the season struggles.

For week 2, the average scores was 49. One golfer broke 40, with Jimmy Yednock shooting a 37.  Two golfers, Scott Larson and Brent Hemstead, shot 40.  Only Scott Larson broke par after handicap, with a net 31.  Four golfers, Mike Sanders, Matt Raymer, Brent Hemstead, and Barry Wanner, shot net 32.

After the first week, the standings have Team Dvorak, with a bye, in first place with 6 points.  Team McEvilly is in second place with 5.5 points, and Team Downing is in third with 5 points.

Challenge Winners were as follows:
  • Tom Mack - Longest Drive on Hole #1
  • Jimmy Yednock - Closest to the Pin 1st Shot on Hole #3
  • Brent Hemstead - Closest 2nd Shot on Hole #7
  • David Downing - Longest Putt on Hole #9

Four golfers had birdies this week:
  • Jim Yednock on Hole #1

Tuesday, May 7 Scramble Results

Tuesday's scramble marked the opening of the 2019 UW Employee Golf League.  The weather was decent for May and the scores were mixed.  The course was in good shape and the trees weren't filled out yet, so conditions were favorable for good scores.  Despite the thinner trees, some of us still found a way to put the trees in play.

Team Rieves blew away the competition with a 29, 3 under par, with birdies on #1, #6, and #8.  Team McEvilly took second with a solid 32, with a birdie on #1 and one bogey.  I will pass out the prize money to the two winning teams next Tuesday.

Here are all the scores:

  • Team Rieves 29 (9 putts) (First Place)
  • Team McEvilly 32 (Second Place)
  • Team Dvorak 33
  • Team Jokisch 33
  • Team Kraus 37 (13 putts)
  • Team Raymer 36 (12 putts)
  • Team Downing 39
Oh and for those of you who forgot (that includes you Jokisch) - please count putts next scramble - that is the tie breaker.

May 7 Scramble Tee Times and Rules

Here are the scramble rules and other information.

There will be four "regular" holes prizes.
·      Longest holed shot (putt or chip) on #3
·      Longest drive in fairway on #4
·      Closest to the pin (on the green) in 1 shot on #6
·      Closest to the pin in 2 shots (on the green) on #7

Tee Times
4:56 #1 Team Jokisch – Please take flags out for the 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th holes. Thanks.
5:04 #2 Team Kraus
5:12 #3 Team Rieves
5:20 #4 Team Raymer
5:28 #5 Team McEvilly
5:36 #6 Team Downing
5:44 #7 Team Dvorak - Please bring flags in.

Reminders:
·      Hit your tee shots on hole 8 from the upper tee.
·      You must count at least one tee shot from each member of your group. On your scorecard, note who hit the tee shot you used on each hole.
·      Count your putts on each hole, and note them on the scorecard.

Rules (for those unfamiliar with the scramble format):
1.    Each foursome plays as a team and keeps one score for the team (including putts).
2.    After each golfer tees off, the team picks one shot to play next, and each golfer hits from there. The three people whose shots won't be used should retrieve their balls and drop within a club-length of the ball chosen to be played, but if the ball you are playing is in the rough or a hazard you must play from that rough or hazard. You may improve your lie (winter rules).
3.    Follow this same procedure until your team holes out.
4.  One shot/ball per golfer - if you only have three golfers, only three shots.
5.    When putting, the first person puts a mark down to identify where the others should putt from if the first person misses.
6.    At least one tee shot from each golfer in the foursome must be used on one of the nine holes. You do not need to decide whose tee shot is to be used until after everybody has teed off on a hole, unless you are forced to use a specific golfer’s tee shot on holes 7, 8, or 9 because you have not used one of their tee shots yet.

Tiebreakers
1.    Most holes-in-one
2.    Most eagles
3.    Most birdies
4.    Fewest putts
5.    Higher average team handicap (those without handicaps will not be counted)
6.    If still tied, prize money will be divided proportionally.
