Week 10 Pairings, July 1 (2nd Half)

Here we go with the start of the second half. The Moritz/Williams match-up is also a playoff for the first half championship.

Attendance Note: I am scheduled for a conversation with the Glenway pro regarding league attendance. I hope to get amnesty for first-half absences, but I fully expect that, in the second half, any no-shows or absences will be charged the full $14.50 greens fee. Please make sure to arrange for a sub if you will not be attending. In addition to making this a worthwhile venture for Glenway, the increased competition is beneficial to the enjoyment of the league.

First Half Wrap: Tiger vs. Rocco, Part II

The first half-season is finished (almost). Full standings are linked on the right, and a summary is below.

For the second season in a row, the Moritz team finds themselves in a first-half tie for 1st place. This time, the Moritz and Williams teams will play it off in Week 10, as their regularly scheduled 2nd-half match-up will also serve as the 1st-half tie-breaker.

(FYI - The Williams team needed and got back-to-back sweeps to catch the Moritz gang.)

70% of the league gets to say they finished in the top 4. The good news is that we're all tied for the 2nd-half championship right now. It's a brand new ball game!

Someone's Been to the Driving Range!

Week 8 results are posted.

Well, people must have been inspired by Rocco, or Tiger, or just benefited from watching 91 holes of golf at Torrey Pines, because scores dove way down this week (see data and graph at the bottom of this post). Eight golfers were in the 30's Tuesday, led By Dave Rieves' 34. (I, of course, was immune to this surge of quality golfing.)

With one week left in the 1st half of the season, the Moritz team holds a 2.5 point lead over the Williams team. Moritz vs. Marble and Williams vs. Wolfe will be the match-ups to watch next week.

Average scores, by week:
Week 1 48.2
Week 2 46.7
Week 3 45.6
Week 4 46.5
Week 5 46.7
Week 6 46.7
Week 7 46.5
Week 8 44.0

Or, in graph form (look at that dive!):

Week 8 Schedule Update

Update: The Nelson team has graciously come up with two subs for Tuesday, so I'm going to sneak them in before the Thoeny foursome. It shouldn't affect tee times too much. So, the two Nelson subs will go out first, followed by the Thoeny foursome (golfing together).

Sorry for yanking times around. This should all be resolved once the second half starts.

Week 8 Schedule Note

Although the Nelson team made its first appearance on Tuesday, they will not be at full strength until the second half (in three weeks). This week, it is very likely that the Thoeny team will go out on their own this week, needing to beat their own handicaps. That would move every tee time up 7-8 minutes, so those of you after the 5:07 tee times should try to show up one tee time earlier than originally scheduled next Tuesday. Updated tee times are listed to the right.

By week 10, we should be back to relative normal team-wise. The Dvorak team has added a third golfer - Phil Julson - and is looking for one more permanent member. The McEvilly team also needs one more.

Week 7 results have been posted. The Moritz team added a little to their lead, but need to hold off the field for two more weeks to claim the first-half title.

Week 7 Pairings - June 10

Is the course still open? Pending Mother Nature's continued wrath, here are the pairings for Tuesday night.

I hope we get to play, because the Thoeny-Williams match-up is a doozy: The two lowest handicaps in the league (Travis Thoeney and David Rieves) face off against each other, and the other three pairings are 14 vs. 14, 17 vs. 17 and 18 vs. 20. The gallery should be huge for those foursomes.

Week 6 Results & Notes

Week 6 Results and Standings are now linked on the right side. The Moritz team has a four-point lead on the field with three weeks left, and only one-half point separates the next four teams. Note: There was a rounding error last week in the results, which I've corrected this week (thanks to Paul S. for pointing it out).

As for "Team 10" I've removed them from the standings since we've filled those vacant slots only about half the time - making their numbers pretty irrelevant. However, Brad Nelson assures me that he'll have his team gearing up now, and will be at full strength to join the league for the second half.

That's the good news. The bad news is that the Thomas team is down to two golfers - Jeff & Mike. For this year, they'll try to fill in with subs until they find permanent replacements. Pat McEvilly is also looking for one golfer for the rest of the season. If you know somebody who'd like to join the league, please let me know.

Week 6 Pairings - June 3

Here are the pairings for Tuesday's matches. It looks like we're going to go with nine teams this year, so this week the Williams team will be going out together as a foursome, and will be competing against their own handicaps.

As nice as it is on Monday, there's a 70% chance of precipitation on Tuesday. Bring your rain gear!
