Week 18 Results Posted

I have posted the results for Week 18 of the golf season. Also posted are the Final 2nd Half Standings.

It took all season, but we finally had an eagle on Tuesday. Congratulations to Adam Hopkins, who holed his 86-yard second shot on the 1st hole Tuesday night for an eagle 2. Last season, Mike Kraus eagled #1 and Charlie Ponti eagled #5 (which we may never see again).

The Championship Match-Ups have been set, as the Moritz team is the 1st Half Champion and the Wolfe team the 2nd Half Champion.

Week 17 Results, Banquet, etc.

Week 17 results are posted. Follow the links on the right of this page. The 2nd half race comes down to the wire, while the Moritz team is forced to study films of both the Dvorak and Wolfe teams in preparation for the League Championship.

Many of you have not signed up for the banquet yet. Please let me know via email, telephone, comment in this post, or in person whether you will be attending.

The Miller vs Loew match-up for next Tuesday will occur during the 3:52 and 4:00 tee times rather than 5:53 and 6:00. Thanks for your flexibility, gentlemen.

• The Delveaux/Corcoran twosome will tee off at 4:00 Tuesday.
  
• Although the match-ups will remain as shown below, Sanders and Heberlein will switch tee times.

Early Tee Times Tuesday (8/19)

Hello Golfers -

Due to the earlier sunset, it's getting very dark for the last few groups on Tuesday nights. To help alleviate this, Glenway has reserved the 3:52 and 4:00 tee times for us next Tuesday. Anybody in the league who can use these tee times, regardless of your team or match-up, is welcome to do so. (I'll give the McEvilly and Moritz teams first crack, since they're scheduled last.) During the regular tee times Tuesday, we will consolidate so that every group has four golfers and we all get in before dark.

If you would like to golf in one of the early tee times, please let me know - either by posting a comment under this post on the blog or by email or phone.

By the way, Week 16 Results and Standings are posted on the right side of this page, as well as the 2008 Banquet Information.

• The league average dipped to a season-low 44.03
• Travis Thoeny tied Chris Weber's season low with a raw score of 33
• Pat McEvilly scored a combined 7 on holes 4 (birdie) and 5 (par), the first time that's been done this season.

I'm still trying to figure out who was subbing for the Loew team. I got John Cuccia and Tom Eberle (I think), but there was another "John" on the scorecard in the second group, and I don't know who it was. If anybody knows, please let me know. (It does not affect this week's standings.) Thanks.

(Scores were not affected by the heat Tuesday, but math skills definitely were, as there were at least four scores added incorrectly on the cards!) Interesting note about Week 12 scores: Four people (Pat McEvilly, David Miller, Paul Schuettler, and Travis Thoeny) birdied the first hole, and another seven scored a par on one. That's 29% scoring par or better on that hole. At the other end of the spectrum, ten golfers (26%) scored a triple-bogey and higher. (For once, I was not in that group.)

Attendance Note: I am scheduled for a conversation with the Glenway pro regarding league attendance. I hope to get amnesty for first-half absences, but I fully expect that, in the second half, any no-shows or absences will be charged the full $14.50 greens fee. Please make sure to arrange for a sub if you will not be attending. In addition to making this a worthwhile venture for Glenway, the increased competition is beneficial to the enjoyment of the league.

First Half Wrap: Tiger vs. Rocco, Part II

The first half-season is finished (almost). Full standings are linked on the right, and a summary is below.

For the second season in a row, the Moritz team finds themselves in a first-half tie for 1st place. This time, the Moritz and Williams teams will play it off in Week 10, as their regularly scheduled 2nd-half match-up will also serve as the 1st-half tie-breaker.

(FYI - The Williams team needed and got back-to-back sweeps to catch the Moritz gang.)

70% of the league gets to say they finished in the top 4. The good news is that we're all tied for the 2nd-half championship right now. It's a brand new ball game!

Someone's Been to the Driving Range!

Week 8 results are posted.

Well, people must have been inspired by Rocco, or Tiger, or just benefited from watching 91 holes of golf at Torrey Pines, because scores dove way down this week (see data and graph at the bottom of this post). Eight golfers were in the 30's Tuesday, led By Dave Rieves' 34. (I, of course, was immune to this surge of quality golfing.)

With one week left in the 1st half of the season, the Moritz team holds a 2.5 point lead over the Williams team. Moritz vs. Marble and Williams vs. Wolfe will be the match-ups to watch next week.
