2024 End of Season Banquet

Congratulations to everyone for a awesome 2024 season.

We had outstanding attendance for the banquet of 22 golfers.

Congrats to all the different team and individual winners.

Team Mack - Champs

Team Larson - Runner up

Flight Winners - Tom Thieding, Tom Stafford, Dan Steinhoff, and Todd Robinson

Scramble Winners - Team Larson and Team Downing

Low Gross - Tom Thieding

Sy Brandt - Jeff Mautz

The end of year budget balance was -$69 due to increase in Commish green fees, increase volume of prize balls (low net), and increased cost for each individual prize ball. Prize monies were donated back to the budget to leave our balance at $1. With that, a discussion was held and with a vote of hands, it was unanimous to raise league fees to $45 per golfer next season. This will allow us to build a small balance to offset any future increased cost and keep prize money the same.

Discussion was held regarding the upper and lower tees on the 8th hole. A vote was held with a show of hands, it was unanimous to alternate the upper and lower tees for next season.

Discussion was held regarding the number of  putts during scrambles. A vote was held and a 2 putt max/hole will be used for the spring scramble and reevaluate the results for future scrambles.

Also regarding the scrambles, how about using the back tees on #4? Please send thoughts and opinions.

I informed the group, that I spoke with Andrew, in the clubhouse, regarding a drop zone for the 8th hole for next season. He would look into it. He seemed to agree that it would be a good idea.

I thanked Scott Larson for his efforts throughout the season with the Results and Handicap spreadsheets. Without his assistance I would be hand calculating everything weekly. For this he received a sleeve of Bridgestone balls.

Thanks again for a great season. I truly look forward each and every week to golf with the group. I have a great time even if my golf game is off. As I told a few of you, I enjoy being Commish. Getting home on Tuesday nights eagerly putting in the scores. Seeing who did what and how that affected the standings. We had tight competition all year long with each half of the season coming down to the last week. I don't know what is up for next season in regards to being Commish. I will continue being Commish until a determination regarding hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2025 happens.

I might be forgetting something. For now that is all I have.

Regards,

Dan

2024 Season Wrap Up

 Hi Everyone,

Well that is a wrap of the 2024 season. I thought the season was very competitive and a few thunderstorms couldn't dampen our spirits.

Congratulations to Team Mack in winning the league championship.

Team Larson had a great season scoring the most points for the  season, 49.5 out of 84 possible points, winning the first half scramble and following that up with a second place finish.

Team Downing finished the season on a high note winning the second half scramble after winning last year's championship.

We had our first hole in one in a while, congrats Jeff Mautz

So again, a great season with lots of new blood. In talking with many of the new members, I think that they enjoyed participating in the UW Employee Men's League. Great job to the remainder of the league members in making them feel welcomed.

The league banquet is on for next Tuesday, September 17th at 5:00 at Lucky's on Regent. We have that same area reserved as last year. Management thought that they may get a few extra fans from the volleyball match, but not enough to cause any issues for us. I will be handing out awards (monies) and we can have a question and answer. Thanks Dave Downing for organizing. Any agenda items or questions send me an email or text 608-445-8257. I hope to see many of you there.

Regards,
Dan

2024 Championship Match Results

 Monday September 09, 2024

2024 UW Employee Men's League Championship

Team Mack

vs

Team Larson

With the league championship on the line, perfect weather and the greens less than optimal, Team Mack and Team Larson put on a great show for those in attendance and those watching the Golf Channel at home.

In the first foursome, we had Jeff Mautz and Jimmy Yednock vs Scott Larson and Dan Steinhoff. Things were pretty even for most of the match. In the end, Team Mack took both victories by 8 strokes, gaining 5 strokes in the last two holes.

In the second foursome, we had Tom Mack and Mark Brooks (sub for Tom Hidde - ill) vs Andrew Preboski and Greg Cass. Mark and Andrew went back and forth the entire match. Each led by multiple strokes at one point or another. In the end, it was a tie. Tom and Greg had a competitive match where Tom started off very well and Greg hung in there. Eventually, Tom cooled off and Greg stayed consistent and took the victory for Team Larson.

When the dust settled Team Mack took 4.5 of 6 match points for the 2024 Championship. They won by a grand total of 5 strokes. Congrats Team Mack!!!

See most everyone tonight at the end of year scramble.

Regards,

DS
