Another Night, Another Disappointment

Another cool and damp night led to another week of handicap padding, with a league average score of 48.3.  Hopefully some warmer weather is on the way.  Team Warren had another productive night, increasing its lead over team Kraus to 4 points.  Chad Shultz led the way with a 37, posting the low score of the night.  Chad's net 25 was also the league low, edging out Michael Brania's net 26.  Chad's drive on hole 7 was extraordinary.  Team Molter took advantage of 3 forfeits to put last place in the rear view mirror.

Pat Fahey, aka "the human highlight reel", had one of the shots of the night by threading a shot though the trees on hole 7 onto the green and parring the hole.  As a reminder to the majority of us who are not as talented as Pat, if you are in the woods on hole 7 you may move your ball as far back as you want on the line of your previous shot with a one stroke penalty, and give yourself a shot with much lower risk.

The new Mike Sanders streak stands at 2.

Talented Golfers Succumb to Glenway

Thirty-Nine golfers bravely stepped up to take on Glenway golf course on May 19, and almost all left bloody and bruised.  It was not a pretty sight.  The first group out, which featured 4 players with an average handicap of 9, set the tone for the night, as they posted an average score of 45.3.  Their round included an epic performance by Chad Shultz on hole 6.  (Ask Chad about that hole.  Better yet, ask Jake Holler about Chad's memorable effort.  Those involved will never forget it.)  The league as a whole may have set a record by averaging double bogey (50.03).  A lot of handicaps will be larger next week.

A select few could walk away with their heads held high.  Dan Stanford continued his solid early season play with a net 29.  He tied Kevin Kiser for the low net score.  Not a single player broke 40, which was the score recorded by Steve McDonnell.  Team Warren took a half-point lead over team Kraus for the first half title.

In other notes.....

> Faced with potential disciplinary action from his team, Mike Sanders committed to not missing another week until 2023 or later.

> Pat Fahey hit his second shot on hole one onto the street, but somehow the ball came back into play, and he saved a bogey.  A windshield was not involved.

The Streak Is Over!!

Breaking news from our May 12 round.  Mike Sanders, who had not missed a night of league golf since week 7 of 2008, decided he had better things to do this week.  A visibly upset Captain Raymer could only shake his head in dismay.  According to Raymer, "It is a sad day when you can't count on a teammate anymore.  We will have to seriously review his future with the team."   Mr. Sanders was unavailable for comment.

Results for Week Two - May 5

The results for week two are posted to the right.  Team Raymer folded under the pressure of trying to hold on to its week one lead despite benefiting from two forfeits, surrendering the top spot to Team Kraus.  The wet conditions led to higher scores, but Jake Holler and newcomer Jay Krafft were unaffected, with each shooting a 38.  Jake (27) shot the lowest net score.  The pace of play was very good, with the final group finishing a little after 8:00.  Team Molter may only have 1.5 points, but it has started us off with fast rounds in both weeks.  Kudos.

Week One Results

The results for our April 28 season opener are posted to the right.  On a nice evening for golf, we managed to get everyone in despite a 25 minute gap between the third and fourth groups.  Matt Raymer (39) was the only golfer to break 40.  Dan Stanford (28) had the low net score.  In an early season changing of the guard, Team Raymer swept all 6 points to charge out to a lead over Team Miller.  The two teams who played for the title in 2014, Molter and Rieves, combined for 1.5 points, and one of those was earned via a forfeit.  But, as Team Raymer learned when it was passed on the last night of the 2014 season, we don't crown a champion until the half is completed.
