I've gotten the sign-up sheet from Glenway Golf Course, and I've emailed the team captains to confirm their team rosters, and the course will start drying out this week. I took a bike ride down to the course last Wednesday night. I'm afraid to report that all those hooks off the second tee took their toll on a very large branch between the 2nd and 3rd fairways, as it was laying horizontally on the ground. I walked through the course and there are quite a few large branches down. I'll still manage to hit the remaining ones.
Expect lots of information to appear here over the next few weeks - schedules, rosters, etc. Meanwhile, here's a recap of the 2009 season.
- LEAGUE CHAMPS: Dave Miller team (Dave, Doug Hoerr, Charlie Hoslet, Ed Meachen)
- Runners-Up: Dave Wolfe team (Dave, Paul Barnett, Adam Hopkins, Mike Sanders)
- Tournament Winners: Lynn Paulson, Pat McEvilly, & Andy Tomaszewski
- Low Average: Travis Thoeny
- Sy Brandt Sportsman: Dave Wolfe
- 673 total rounds of golf were played (although some probably barely resembled golf).
- Only one golfer (who golfed 10 or more rounds) never scored a snowman or higher - Travis Thoeny. Travis also had only one snowman in 2008 (hole 1).
- Chris Weber had only one snowman this season - in the last week on number 5.
- Scott Gomez had zero snowmen in 2008 and none in 2009 . . . until August 11, that is, when he managed a 9 on the first hole and an 8 on the last hole.
- The best combined score on the four par 3 holes was 10 (2 under par) by Dave Rieves.
- The worst combined score on the four par 3 holes was 32 (um, 20 over par) by somone who I'm not going to rat out.
- The best combined score on the five par 4 holes was 20 (par) by Travis Thoeney (three times) and Dave Rieves (once).
- The worst combined score on the five par 4 holes was 44 (beat a quintuple bogey!).
- Best start (1st three holes) was 9 (1 under) by Lynn Paulson, Dave Rieves, Travis Thoeny, and Mike Williams.
- Best middle three holes was 10 (1 under) by Chris Weber, who scored did it the hard way: par, par, birdie (on 5).
- Best Finish (last three holes) was 9, (2 under) by Will Nagel, who birdied 7 and 9.
- Season Low Round: 32 by Travis (twice).
- Non-Travis Season Low Round was 34, by Dave Rieves and Chris Weber.
- The season's only Eagle was by Bob Moritz on number 9. He must have been thirsty and trying to get to the clubhouse.
- Highest head-to-head winning percentage (minimum 10 rounds) was 81% (13 out of 16) by Dave Delveaux
- Lowest head-to-head winning percentage (minimum 10 rounds) was 23% (3.5 out fo 15) by someone whose captain has probably relieved them of their duties.
- Largest spread between high and low scores was 20, by Mike Kraus. Two other golfers were one stroke off that spread, and another two were two off.
- Smallest spread between high and low scores was 6, by Ed Meachen, who shot between 42 and 48 all season.
- Biggest rebound from one week to the next was Pat McEvilly who went from a 53 (week 3) to a 38 (week 4).
- Biggest drop-off from one week to the next was an angry golfer, who went from a 37 (week 4) to a 52 (week 5). Another golfer went from 42 to 59, but had two weeks off in between.
- Holes on which we scored more double-bogeys-or-worse than we did bogeys-or-better: FOUR, 4, 5, 7, and 9 (which is the same as 2008, but we were within two bogeys on #4).
- Most birdied hole was number 8 - 18 times. In 2008, it was number 6, 24 times.
